The Best Beauty Products to Pack When Traveling

One of the best things about summer is the anticipation of traveling to somewhere hot, sunny, and maybe even tropical. Unfortunately, so many airlines charge for checking in bags so most people try to limit how much luggage they bring or just bring a carry-on bag. Obviously, you can’t bring the entire contents of your beauty stash with you, nor can you bring your full-sized bottles of moisturizer or hair products since you’re usually limited to 3 oz containers. To help you with your packing, here are a few beauty products that you should take with you.

Beauty Essentials for Traveling

Skincare

No matter where you go, you need to take care of your skin. If you’re flying somewhere, chances are, some moisture will be sucked from your skin while traveling so you should pack a really good moisturizing cream. You might also benefit from a moisturizer with a high SPF if you’re planning on spending time in the sun.

Before you leave, buy Belif cosmetics in a travel pouch so you know you’re at least taking the basics with you: cleanser, toner, eye cream, and moisturizer. You should also never leave home without an exfoliator, which will scrub away dead skin cells and let your skin better absorb the moisturizer. I also like to toss a great moisturizer for my hands and feet in my purse to keep my skin looking and feeling good too!

Sunscreen

I love to soak up the sun on vacation and I love a good tan but it’s very important to protect your skin too. There are two types of sun lotion designed to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Sunblock is a physical kind of lotion, containing both organic and non-organic ingredients that sit on top of the skin, acting as a barrier between your skin and damaging UV rays by reflecting or scattering the light.

Sunscreen is a chemical lotion that penetrates the skin and filters the sun’s UV rays. Essentially, it keeps most rays out but lets some in, which means that your skin can absorb the vitamin D emitted by the sun.

Since vitamin D is an essential nutrient, you’re better off using sunscreen. Just make sure you top it up if you sweat it off or reapply it after swimming.

Aloe Vera

I know. Probably not the first thing on most people’s minds when planning what to take on vacation but an aloe vera gel might be the best thing you’ll ever pack in your bag. Not only does it leave your skin soft and fight acne, but it is the most effective pain relief for sunburn.

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritated skin and astringent properties that help heal scars. Plus, it moisturizes the skin and stimulates new skin cell growth, which will help you recover from sunburn much faster. I love taking it with me when traveling in the summer so I can apply it after being in the sun.

Makeup Remover Wipes

All the hard work you’ve put into your summer skincare regimen could be ruined by two things: sunburn and sleeping with makeup on. Your skin needs to breathe in order to maintain its healthy glow, but makeup can clog your pores making you more prone to breakouts.

However, if you don’t want to go through the removal process after a long night out, just pack some wipes to quickly clean your face before bed. They even sell cleansing wipes that are textured for light exfoliation. Keep the pack beside the bed as a reminder and a convenient way to remove your makeup and go right to sleep.

Makeup

I don’t wear much makeup in the summer whether I’m traveling or not. But when you’re on vacation, chances are you are going to get dressed up for dinner and enjoy the night life at least once or twice. BB Creams and foundations can feel a bit icky and make your face feel like it’s melting in the heat so most times they’re not necessary or wanted.

In that case, all you really need are the basics to accentuate your features: lipstick, mascara, eye liner, and a good bronzer or highlight powder. Toss those and the brushes for the powders in your cosmetic bag and you’re good to go!

Facial Masks

Different activities (especially beach and pool activities) can dry out your skin throughout the day, even with moisturizer. Pack a pampering face mask or two to restore your skin’s moisture and keep your skin glowing. They come in thin pouches that are easy to throw in any bag.

Although there are more travel sized beauty items available in stores now, most skincare and hair products typically come in tubes larger than 3 ounces. In that case, I suggest packing these in your checked luggage or empty some into smaller travel-sized bottles so TSA doesn’t confiscate them. It has happened to me and losing my skin and hair products (and money down the drain) was definitely a lesson well-learned!
