Product Review: Nail Polish Holder Ring

Those who know me well know that other than my love for lipstick, I am a huge nail polish junkie! I have quite a few shoe boxes full of nail polish in various colors and my collection includes nail art and manicure accessories. So, recently a friend tagged me in a Facebook post that showed this nail polish holder ring and I thought it was genius!! Why didn’t I think of that?! It’s a silicone ring that holds a nail polish bottle while you do your nails. This can be a very practical solution for people who sometimes do their nails on the go and don’t have a stable surface to put the nail polish on.

I didn’t see a link to where it can be purchased on the Facebook post, so I did the next best thing: got my Google on. I quickly found it on Amazon.com for about $15 and immediately put it on my wish list so I could come back to it later. A few days went by and I was scrolling through an app that has become an addiction for me lately (wish.com) and guess what I found? And it was only like $1! So you know I ordered it! Now, it’s not the same brand and the design is slightly different from the one on Amazon, but for $1 I figured it was worth a shot. It was offered in the three different colors and I chose “rose pink”, which looks more like hot pink.

I couldn’t wait to use it so I painted my nails this past week using a new polish I picked up recently by L.A. Colors called Hottie and although I did my nails at home on a flat surface, I enlisted the help of my new nail polish holder ring anyway to see how useful it would be.

First, it has a soft rubber feel and it’s very pliable. The rings open easily by pinching the tabs, that stick out from the bottom, toward the middle. The top of the holder has six flaps that bend downward when you insert the bottle, and the inside of the holder has little bumps at the base to prevent the nail polish bottle from sliding.

I placed my nail polish in it easily and (with the top on) I moved it around and upside down to see how well it would hold it and it held pretty well! Even upside down, my nail polish bottle didn’t fall out. However, I tried it with two other polishes of the same brand and that wasn’t the case. The bottles slid out pretty easily as well as my Sally Hansen polishes that I tried in it. Those are too narrow for the flaps to secure without slipping.  Polishes by Wet n Wild, Ruby Kisses, and Sinful Colors were pretty snug in there though. It seems that the bottles that are kind of wide or chunky fit more securely than smaller, narrow polish bottles.

These photos were taken after I finished my manicure and here are my first impressions of this product after one use:

👍🏽 Pros 👍🏽

  • It was comfortable enough to wear
  • The material is soft and bendable
  • It secured this particular polish bottle well
  • It was a convenient place to store the polish without accidentally knocking it over
  • The tabs make the rings easy open to place or remove your fingers
  • The bottle stayed in place each time I had to screw or unscrew the top

👎🏽 Cons 👎🏽

  • There were times when the holder bent too much and got in the way depending on how I held/tilted my hand. This was due to the added weight of the polish bottle
  • At times it felt a bit awkward to wear becaue it’s a bit bulky
  • It was a bit bothersome to have to keep switching it from one hand to the other
  • Wearing it on my dominant hand was awkward since painting the nails on that hand already requires more focus
  • Because the rings open at the top of the fingers, taking my fingers out each time I had to switch hands was tricky. Actually, I smudged my polish a couple of times trying to carefully coordinate taking my fingers out and placing the fingers of my other hand in

THE VERDICT ♦

It may be because it was my first time using it but using this nail polish holder ring was awkward. I can see how it would be convenient but for me it got in the way more than anything. When I compare the design of the polish holder ring I bought to the one I saw on Amazon, it looks like the one on Amazon may have a more practical design when it comes to the rings. The one on Amazon is called Tweexy and the rings open at the bottom instead of the top. I would think that would make removing your fingers much easier without the worry of smudging your nails. I imagine less coordination would be needed because you can pinch the tabs up and pull your fingers downward. I’m also curious about how sturdy the Tweexy holder is compared to the one I tried.

All in all, I think the nail polish holder ring I purchased was okay. I would use it again but probably more for convenience when I do my pedicures so I don’t have to worry about my manicure getting messed up. If you’re interested in checking out the Tweexy nail polish holder ring you can see the listing on Amazon here!

What do you think? Do you think a nail polish holder ring be a help or a hindrance for your next manicure?

  1. I’m just now really getting into beauty products ext. and I’ve been having the hardest time with nail polishes. Like I’m to cheap lol. I’m going to check out that wish.com app. This product looks super cool. It actually looks pretty comfortable. Great review. So much detail and explanations

    1. The great thing about nail polishes, British, is that there are so many brands at various price points! Being a frugal shopper myself, I don’t typically pay more than $3 for a bottle of nail polish. I have used certain higher end brands before and didn’t notice a significant difference in longevity or quality! If you keep it on the cheap you have more room to play 🙂

  2. Great and honest review! I don’t do my nails much but this sounds interesting to put a ring on it. Lol! Thanks for sharing.

  3. I like how you listed the pros and cons. I think l would feel the same way and thought it before reading it and our thoughts matched. I wouldn’t mind trying it to be sure though. Great review.

    1. Lol I understand Tia! I agree that it would probably be too much for someone who is new to doing their own nails. But it may even be helpful when doing someone else’s nails too.

    1. I know BB! I need to come up with a million dollar idea! It is interesting. Can be very convenient once you get the hang of it.

    1. Oh, I’ve never seen the commercial Holly! I’m not sure how this one (knock off) compares to the real one that was on TV but I’d hope that the Tweexy is more sturdy. Thanks for reading!

  4. Wow, I have never heard of this before! But I guess there really is something for everything/everyone. It seems like it would make it more difficult to polish my nails, so I’m not sure I would try it. But I can see how some people would find it helpful.

    1. Yes Christine! What will they think of next?! Lol! It is a bit awkward to work with initially but I’ll have to try it a few more times to see if it gets easier. I can definitely see how it would be convenient for some. Thanks for reading!

  5. I always have such a hard time doing my own nails. This product has a cool concept but by our con’s have me debating if I want to invest. Thanks for being honest.

    1. No problem Ty! I’m always going to be completely honest 🙂 One thing to note though is that my review is based on the knock off I purchased from Wish, not the original which is sold on Amazon. Not sure how they compare but the knock off is okay…could use some improvement 😉

    1. I agree. I think it’s worth a try for the knock off Mimi. I haven’t used the real one (tweexy) so I’m not sure if that one is more sturdy. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. This looks like the perfect solution for trying to tilt a polish jar while painting my nails but I can also see the cons you mentioned being an issue. Perhaps they will release a New and Improved version 🙂

    1. Thanks for reading Tiffany! I agree it’s a good way to tilt the polish but you’d have to be careful not to tilt it too much. At least with this one. It’s a knock off so I’m not sure how sturdy the real one (tweexy) holds up.

  7. I like he idea of this! Maybe try a different process to see if things go smoother. I would love to try this!

    1. If you give it a go, let me know Valerie! I’ll have to use it a few more times to see if it gets easier. Thanks for reading!

  8. Oh , I love that thingy 🙂 Little great tool , very helpful I think . And not expensive . No more spilling of nail polish on my good glass table 🙂 Thanks for telling about , I am sharing that for my friends 😉
