My Summer Skincare Regimen for Glowing Skin

Hey all! I love interacting with my followers and others on Instagram each day and really appreciate the nice comments people have made about my skin. I’ve also gotten inquiries on social media about what skincare products I use so I figured I would tell you about my summer skincare regimen!

First off, I have been really lucky to not have problem skin which I must attribute largely to genetics (thanks mom & dad 😆) but on top of that I’ve always tried my best to take good care of my skin on a regular basis.
I do get breakouts now and then that are sometimes a result of my diet, stress, makeup, or hormones and I try to nip them in the bud when/if I can. My regimen doesn’t change a whole lot from season to season but due to the heat and sun exposure,  I do change it up a little bit for Summer. Keep in mind that this regimen works for me for my normal to dry skin so it may not work for those with oily skin.

☀️ IN THE MORNING ☀️

Cleanse: Each morning I wash my face using Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. Sometimes I use my hands to rub it in. Most times I use a face scrubby that has a soft side and a mesh exfoliating side. I believe I picked up a pack of these facial scrubbies at my local Dollar Tree.

Once in a while if I’m pressed for time, I will do a quick cleanser using the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water. I just pour some on a cotton round and wipe it all over my face. It does a pretty good job cleaning my face in a pinch, but I ultimately prefer to wash my face. This is very convenient though.

Tone: After cleansing, I put some Simple Soothing Facial Toner on a cotton round and apply it all over my face. The purpose of toner is to balance out the skin’s pH after cleansing and to remove any other oils/dirt that the cleanser may have left behind. I use the Simple toner because it’s made for sensitive skin and doesn’t have alcohol in it, which dries out the skin terribly. This doesn’t dry out my skin at all!

Depending on the day and my mood, I occasionally switch it up and use witch hazel or rose water toner. Sometimes I buy the Dickinson’s brand witch hazel but I find the store brand to work well too and it saves me a couple dollars. Witch hazel also tones the skin and minimizes pores. It’s all natural, alcohol free, and good for all skin types. The store brand witch hazel in the picture is from Walgreens.

Rose water tones the skin, restores the pH, and feels really refreshing.  I love the way it smells too! It is all natural and it also has natural antioxidants in it, which is a plus for younger looking skin.

Moisturize: This right here is such an important step! If you don’t moisturize your skin (face & body) you’re doing yourself an injustice, in my opinion. Being that Summer is here, I have started using a moisturizer with SPF, also by Simple. I didn’t always use an SPF moisturizer but I realize the need even more now that I’m older, to give my skin some kind of protection from these sun rays that I love so much.

This moisturizer is creamy but lightweight, which makes it good for warmer weather. My skin absorbs it well and I’m not left with a shiny face afterwards.

I then apply makeup, if I decide to wear it on that day. Lately, it’s been so hot that I’ve been skipping the BB Cream I normally use and just keep it simple instead with concealer (maybe), mascara, and lipstick. I think it may be good to do that now and then so my skin can get a break from makeup products and breathe.

Makeup remover: If I wore makeup that day, I begin removing it with a makeup removing wipe. Lately, I’ve been using these wipes by Wet n Wild. They do a good preliminary job of taking off most of my makeup.

Cleanse: I then use the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash again to give my face a good cleaning and move the rest of my makeup, if necessary.

Tone: Again, I restore my skin’s pH with either the Simple Soothing Facial Toner or Witch Hazel.

Skin booster: You know they say black don’t crack but I try to do my own prevention with the added help of vitamin C serum. I love this stuff! I started using this a couple months ago because I learned that Vitamin C helps prevent premature aging by providing potent anti-oxidant protection which creates a barrier between the skin and free radicals from the environment (i.e sun, pollution, etc.) So, it helps keep the skin looking younger! That’s enough to make me use it on a regular basis! The Vitamin C serum I use is by Art Naturals and I put this on once a day, usually at night. It can be used under moisturizer and makeup though.

Moisturize: After applying the vitamin C serum, I follow up with a pea-sized amount of Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer before bed. Once in a while, when I feel my face needs extra moisture, I’ll apply coconut oil or Argan oil instead of this moisturizer. I posted about the Argan oil that I use and love here in a previous post.

🗓 WEEKLY & MONTHLY REGIMENS 🗓

Weekly: Two or three times a week I like to exfoliate using this Coconut Milk Body Scrub after cleansing my face. This particular scrub is one of the best that I’ve purchased. Occasionally, I make my own sugar scrubs but I love this sea salt scrub. It’s very moisturizing. For more details on this coconut milk body scrub, see my review that I posted here.

I just recently got into the new trend of sheet mask facial treatments too. I also posted a review of the first one I tried here. I bought these sheet masks by Miss Spa for only $3 each and I’m liking the outcomes so far. They leave my skin feeling tighter and looking radiant!

Monthly: Once a month, I like to do a good mud mask. I should probably do it more than once a month but if you’re a busy working mom like myself, you know how difficult it can be to take some time for yourself to do things like this on a more frequent basis. I alternate between a bentonite clay mask, Queen Helene Mint Julep mask (a long time fave of mine), and this Dead Sea Mud Mask by Art Naturals. If you can’t tell already, I really like Art Naturals products lol! In a nutshell, dead sea mud detoxifies and nourishes the skin with the help of all the good minerals it contains such as sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, iron, and calcium. It also helps improve circulation.

There you have it! That’s my skin care regimen that helps me keep breakouts at bay. Of course, I have other products and treatments that I may use and try from time to time but these are pretty much my staples. What’s your summer skincare regimen like? Let me know in the comments!

  1. You do have incredible skin. That rose water tonic looks interesting, the Vitamin C serum too. One thing I found getting older is washing the makeup off at night is so important.

    1. Thanks Heidi! You’re right! Taking makeup off at night is so important. I’ve learned that the hard way.

  2. I use a lot of similar products such as the witch hazel, vitamin C, and mud masks. I’ve always been curious about the Simple brand, thanks for informing me about it!

    1. Sounds like you have a great regimen She Joh! The Simple brand was recommended to me by an aesthetician some months ago and I am so glad she told me about it!

  3. i love the simple micellar cleanser wipes as well for when I’m on the run, doing lip swatch beauty posts or at the gym. It effectively removes everything – give it a go! p.s. your skin is gorgeous and glowing!

    1. Thanks Miranda! I didn’t know they had micellar wipes, I’m going to have to check that out!

  4. As someone who spent years finding the perfect skincare regimen, I’m glad to see you’ve found something that works for you! Your skin is glowing! 🙂 Approximately how long have you been following this regimen?

  5. That rose water tonic looks like I need to have it. I have to get back to a good skin regimen. I have let it go for a while now…

    1. Thank you Tiffany! I wouldn’t say flawless but this regimen definitely helps! Their moisturizers are on point 🙂

    1. No problem Tia! I would definitely recommend trying a dead sea mud mask! The benefits are great.

    1. Well thank you Kim 🙂 The rose water toner and vitamin C are both fairly new to my regimen and I’m definitely keeping those around!

    1. Hey Allison! It really works well for me as a moisturizer and the consistency is just right. Let me know if you try it!

    1. Lol, yes Mimi! Those wipes definitely come in handy in those lazy moments. Simple products are marketed for sensitive skin, which I believe is the safest way to go sometimes. I’ve never had a reaction to any of their products I’ve used so far and the prices are very reasonable!

  6. So I’m guilty of not exfoliating my skin as much as I should as it helps with keeping the skin clean and soft. I think I’ll incorporate doing it once a week like you have so it doesn’t feel like a chore.

    1. Hey Nay, I totally understand. We get busy…sometimes I just get lazy lol. But exfoliating really is important, like you said. I agree that if you do it at least once a week that’s better than nothing. Do you prefer sugar or salt scrubs?

    1. Hey Keisha! Good skincare is really important and it doesn’t have to be complicated at all. I would recommend that you start by cleansing, toning, and moisturizing twice a day (morning and evening). Be sure to use products that work for your skin type. If you’re already doing that, I would add exfoliation 1-2 times a week just to keep the skin nice and fresh! I hope that helps!

  7. What a neat post !!! I love the images 🙂 My favs are the face masks , I love face masks ! And of course my absolute nr.1 the Coconut body scrub .
