Winter is no excuse for not staying healthy; In fact, considering that you tend to eat more during the winter, especially over the holiday, then it’s even more important to maintain healthy habits. While living a healthier life might not be the easiest thing, it definitely isn’t the most complicated and can actually be simplified into three easy steps:
Living a Healthier Life Now
1. Start With a Healthy Diet
Eating healthily doesn’t mean cutting out certain foods completely and it definitely doesn’t mean cutting out entire meals. Instead, you need to eat balanced meals. A third of your meal should be made up of starchy carbohydrates and you should eat at least five portions of fruits or vegetables a day to get a variety of vitamins and minerals.
You also need to make sure you’re drinking enough water – six to eight glasses are usually recommended, but you might want to drink more if you’re very active or the weather is warm. Water helps to flush out toxins and aids a lot of chemical processes in the body, so it’s incredibly important. While sodas and juices do contain water, they also contain lots of sugar and calories, so they aren’t recommended to keep you hydrated.
2. Sweat It Out
I think it’s a well-known fact that being active is incredibly important for living a healthier life. If you’re not doing any physical activity, then you’re not going to feel your best. Luckily, you don’t need to spend three hours at the gym every day to get your daily exercise in. There are lots of simple things that you can do to be a little more active each day. For example, if you take the bus home from work, get off a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way. You could also take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. Walking the dog is another great way to get exercise and is also beneficial for your furry friend.
3. Avoid Unhealthy Habits
There are plenty of bad habits that we could all avoid but there are certain ones that are just blatantly unhealthy. Smoking is one of them. Smoking comes with a load of health risks, including heart disease, heart attacks, pneumonia from lung damage, and many different cancers, including lung cancer.
Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can also lead to cancer and heart and liver disease. If you do smoke or drink, you should try to cut back if although, giving it up completely is much better. Illegal drugs, of course, should be cut out completely so if you do use drugs, you should always get help. Doctors may offer you a rapid detox, medical treatment, and counseling.
Living a healthy lifestyle might seem difficult at first, but it’s not as complicated as you might think. All you need to do is eat the right foods, drink plenty of water, get enough exercise, and cut back on habits that could be negatively impacting your health. It’s that simple, so don’t wait for the new year, get healthy now!
