Summer has ended and the cooler weather is starting to creep in (in some places). Put the hot chocolate down, peel yourself off the sofa, and get moving. One way to keep that motivation up high, even in the worst weather is to try a new fitness activity come winter time. In fact, this can be useful for a number of reasons. The first is that the appeal of doing something you haven’t tried before can help get you up and out of the house.

Also changing things up a bit in winter can be helpful because it allows you to consider what activities will be the best ones to do in the dark and the cold. Meaning, that instead of going out for a 6 am run each morning you go to the local heated swimming pool to do your cardio for an hour.

Use the Weather to Your Advantage

Depending on where you live you can keep your winter exercise motivation up by actually using the weather to your advantage. Maybe, you can head out into the woods for a long hike with the dogs through the fallen leaves?

Alternatively, if you live in an area that gets a lot of snow as you can replace your normal routine with things like snowboarding or skiing if the terrain allows. Sports like these can burn up to 446 calories an hour, making it a great way to maintain your exercise routine even in the coldest of weather.

Get the Right Clothes

To help you get up and out of the door to exercise in the winter, make sure that you have the right clothes to keep you toasty and warm and protect you from the elements. That means waterproof jackets for running and walking as well as lots of layers that can be removed easily as you warm up.
