Whether you have long, wavy hair, curly hair, a pixie crop, or a sloping bob, naturally you want to ensure that your hair is always at its very best. The only issue is that hair care is something that can be a struggle to get right. It’s not about understanding the best hair care methods; it’s about knowing your hair. The issue is that there are so many different hair types – from fine and silky to thick and textured hair – meaning that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to hair care.
Anyone who has spent hour after hour attempting to perfect their hair care routine knows that when it comes to finding that ideal formula, it’s all about trial and error. Just like finding that perfect foundation – it can take a lot of time and skin tone matching to find that perfect shade for your skin tone – getting your hair care right can take a lot longer than you would like. However, the silver lining is that once you’ve found a hair care routine (and products) that works for you, you are set for life.
While you are attempting to get your hair routine and products right, what can you do to make sure that your hair gets the care it requires, even if you haven’t nailed its exact needs just yet?
Hair Care Tips:
I’m not necessarily talking about wearing your hair natural, although I’m definitely a big fan of that too. What I am talking about here, though, is products. There is no getting away from the fact that unnatural hair care products don’t tend to be good for your hair. The chemicals and other junk found in these products can cause damage to hair, from drying it out to making split ends more likely, which is why it’s best to go natural if you possibly can.
Actually, natural hair products are much better for your hair and health. Sure, they tend to cost more, but when you think about the fact they offer a higher quality of care, it makes the higher price worth paying. The good thing is that natural products are so popular now so you can find them at different price points. Just be sure to read the ingredients on the label to be sure it’s natural!
Don’t Overwash Your Hair
Overwashing your hair, regardless of your hair type, will make it more prone to greasiness, which will mean you end up washing it more and more. Try to wash your hair twice a week at the maximum and no more than that. If you can get away with doing it once a week, do that. For those days in-between washes, when your hair starts to look a little greasy, consider using dry shampoo. This should help to keep the grease at bay and prevent you from needing to wash your hair so often.
Deep Condition Once a Month
To prevent your hair from drying out or splitting, deep condition it with a hair mask or other deep conditioning treatment once a month. You can buy a pre-made hair mask, or you can put some nourishing and moisturizing ingredients together and make one yourself. There are plenty of hair mask ideas for going down the DIY route, but the most effective ones tend to be coconut oil and aloe vera, or avocado, coconut oil, raw egg, and mayonnaise, or honey and banana.
You can also tailor your mask to your needs whether it’s for moisture, protein, or both. Give these masks a try and see what you think – your hair is sure to end up feeling wonderfully soft and smooth, as long as you wash the ingredients out properly and follow by shampooing, that is.

Haircare can be tricky to get right, especially since there is so much different advice out there, and so many different hair types. The most important thing is to find what works for YOUR hair and stick to that. Many times, people find that keeping it simple is best.
