Many of us wear makeup daily or a few days out of the week to enhance our beauty and features. A good foundation helps even out your skin tone and conceal any blemishes and imperfections. But the greatest foundation is great skin care! Here are some helpful tips on how you can keep your skin healthy while wearing makeup every day.
Great Skin Care is the Best Foundation
Hands Off!
Try not to touch your face. As tempting as it is – just don’t. We pick up so much bacteria on our hands and although we can’t see it, every time we scratch, rub and lean on our face, we are transforming all of that dirt onto it, which results in those pesky bumps and spots.
If you really do need to touch your face, like for applying makeup or cream – wash your hands first!!!
Remove Your Makeup
One of the biggest things you can do, which a lot of people forget, is to remove your makeup once you’re done with it. This means if you just got home from work and are ready to put your pajamas on, or if you just got in after a night out on the town – take off your makeup! Don’t be lazy and sleep it. Your skin needs to breathe, and if you constantly have foundations, BB Creams, and/or powders on top of it – it can’t.
When removing your makeup, you never want to scrub, as this isn’t good for your skin and can actually cause wrinkles. You can use makeup remover wipes or cleansers, or both. It doesn’t really matter as long as you are gentle, and use a good moisturizer afterward.
Natural is Always Best
Whether you are looking for a cleanser, moisturizer, toner or primer, choosing natural skin care products are the way to go. This is because natural products are a lot safer and kinder to the skin, compared to products that have all sorts of different chemicals in them. Plus, natural ingredients such as honey and beeswax have so many other great uses for your skin, and they aren’t harmful.
Dab on it
See what I did there? Lol! When applying makeup around the eyes, never rub or drag the product across. Instead, use a careful dabbing motion. This not only reduces the likeliness of getting under eye wrinkles and bags, but it will also make the product apply nicer to skin, and you won’t have to spend hours blending. This is why I like using a beauty blender to apply concealer under my eyes and a stipple brush for applying BB Cream.
Prep Those Lips
Do not neglect your lips in your skin care routine. Always prepare lips before you put anything on them. This means exfoliating them. You don’t even need to buy anything; sugar works great. Just dampen your lips with a little bit of warm water, and gently rub sugar over them – this will just remove any dead skin that you have. But you don’t want to do this too hard because you may end up making them sore.
Once that’s done you’ll want to cover your lips with your best lip balm. You will love how soft they’ll feel! Then you can add your favorite lipstick or gloss to finish the look.

If you find that your eyelashes fall out a little bit more than they should when removing your eye makeup, use some coconut oil on them. You know coconut oil is the answer for all of life’s problems! This oil works as a conditioner would on your hair. It will not only protect them from any wear and tear they suffer throughout the day, but it will also nourish them. Your lashes may even grow fuller and longer as a result!
Do you have a regular skin care regimen? If so, what’s your favorite tip?
Thanks for the tips! I didn’t know about the sugar trick, but I will give it a try. I usually use Mary Kay’s Satin Lip Mask to exfoliate my lips followed by the Satin Lip Balm.
I rarely ever wear makeup but when I do, I make sure to use a good remover then follow with my usual cleansing routine.
Thanks for the tips! I really need them to remind me about wearing make-up, and yes natural products are still the best option!
These are some great tips. Keeping our skin healthy is always vital.
I have a skin care regimen that I’m good about staying with. My biggest tip would be drinking water and removing that makeup!

Do you know if their is a natural skin care company that makes products for women who are dark brown. I need to let go of the brand I’m currently using because they don’t make my shade of brown and it sometimes causes me to have break outs.
These are great tips. I also like to get facials every now and then as part of my skincare regimen. Don’t forget the sunscreen. Sunscreen is vital to healthy skin.
