As the year 2017 comes to a close, it tends to cause us to reflect on the successes and opportunities that arose throughout the year. It can be easy to focus on the negative and set yourself every New Year’s resolution under the sun, and vow that 2018 will be YOUR year.
However, if you think back to the start of 2017 you may find a few resolutions that were forgotten along the way, and that same “it will be a better year” promise to yourself. It can be difficult to completely overhaul all your bad habits in one night, so how about you give yourself a warm up in the next couple of weeks, and step into 2018 ready to kick its ass with these few simple tricks!
Make 2018 a Great Year!
Set Realistic Goals…For Real This Time
Rather than set goals for yourself that are well without your reach for the entire year – set yourself a goal for the end of January. It takes two weeks to make something a habit, so even if you fall off the bandwagon, you have time to haul yourself back on. Then at the end of January, you can re-evaluate. Set a higher goal for February.
For example, if you want to lose weight, set a goal to work out 3-5 times a week for the whole of January. Then for February, you could set a goal to lose a certain amount of weight, and maybe a dress size by summer. Making the goals and amount of time smaller will make your goals seem a lot more manageable and sustainable, which will help you to stick to them throughout the whole year.
Get A Total Body Check-Up
Our bodies are powerful things that we depend on for our entire life, so it’s extremely important to get regular checkups to make sure that everything is in working order. Go to your doctor for a checkup and the optometrist. Even get a hearing test! Looking at hearing test faqs, it is actually recommended that you get your hearing tested at least every three years, and your vision checked annually. Be sure to also go to the dentist too, which should be done every six months. We often give our cars a yearly safety inspection so it makes a lot of sense to give ourselves one too.
Christmas is a lovely time of year, where friends and families come together, food makes the times tastier, and pajamas are just that little bit comfier. It can be a shock to the system when suddenly “back to work” is looming in the not so distant future, with the early mornings and your personal trainer starts to not be so lax about that chocolate yule log you ate.
It’s important to feel ready and refreshed when that dreaded morning alarm goes off on the first day back. So, give yourself a head to toe pampering. Maybe do some yoga or your chosen work out to get the endorphins flowing, have a nice hot bath with candles and a Lush bath bomb, paint your nails, do a face mask, and have a glass of wine. Taking the time to rejuvenate will leave you thanking yourself for it when you’re the only one in the office feeling completely refreshed by the Christmas break.
Hopefully, this has helped to make that New Year feeling less daunting and given you a different perspective on how you can kick 2018 off to the best start!
