I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not always so easy to make exercise part of your daily routine, especially when we already have so much going on in our lives. If we have mouths to feed, bills to pay, and friends to catch up with, it can be difficult to find the time to begin our path (and stay on it) towards healthy living. There is another option, however, and that is to step away from our busy lives and dedicate some time solely to physical activity. By taking a fitness vacation, we’ll be having fun, getting fit, and falling in love with an activity we may be able to continue to do when we’re back home. Who said a vacation has to be all about relaxation?
Fitness Vacation Anyone?
Pick Somewhere Beautiful
I mean, duh! Of course you’re going to want to go somewhere that is visually appealing, right? Well, there’s no shortage of beautiful destinations around the world. When choosing where you’ll visit, pick somewhere where you know you’ll want to explore the great outdoors. If it’s in the U.S., the wild expanse of the west – including the national parks – would be a good option, because they’ll offer a wide variety of recreational activities. And you’ll also be able to do them all day, because you’ll never run out of space.
What Do You Like To Do, & What Will You Need?
Think about what activities you like to do since that will dictate how you prepare. If you’re going on a hiking trip, then you’ll obviously need hiking boots, weather appropriate clothing, and a backpack filled with all the essential hiking supplies.
If you’re a cyclist, then bear in mind that you’ll need to transport your bicycle on the plane, if flying is necessary, and will also need cycle travel insurance in case something goes wrong when you’re traveling. As you’ll be spending the majority of your time in non-urban areas, you’ll have to a pick a route that includes a place to lay your head each night, be it a hotel or camping area.
Specific Retreats
If you don’t want to organize your own fitness vacation, then consider booking yourself into a retreat that has a specific emphasis on physical health. This industry is booming in the U.S. and Europe so you’ll be able to find a company specializing in whatever your preferred activity is. You can join a boot camp and get fit the fast (and hard) way, or join a dedicated walking or kayaking group. If you’re looking for something more laid back, think about a horse riding vacation.
For Your Mental Health
It’s not just our physical health that vacations can help with. There are also options to boost our mental health, too. There are places all over the world that specialize in taking care of people’s body, mind, and soul. Join a yoga retreat, for example, and you’ll be guided through ten days of bliss. Ah, there’s the relaxing aspect of vacations!
When You Return Home
It’s no use only doing exercise when you’re away from home. Take what you’ve learned on your fitness vacation back home with you and incorporate it into your daily routine. It can be a fun way to begin exercising, but it’ll only be effective if it becomes part of your life!
